The new Nissan is part of the 2nd generation of Armada, which was introduced for 2017. Added to the 2019 model are adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation features as standard items. The vehicle has plenty of interior room to offer, a strong V-8 pull, and despite its high-quality appearance, the SUV does not come with a luxury price tag.
The 2019 Armada is offered in 4 trim levels: SV, SL, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. It is able to seat 8 passengers, and offers plenty of cargo room, going up to 95 cubic feet of space. The base SV trim level comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, side steps, roof rails, automatic LED headlights, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tow hitch receiver, power-adjustable front seats that come with heating capabilities, and a steering wheel wrapped in leather. The SV trim level is the only one featuring cloth seats, but it still manages to maintain its elegant look. The interior is also equipped with a large number of buttons and controls, but they are laid out conveniently and the driver can get accustomed to them easily.
On the tech side of things, the list is comprised of a navigation system, a 13-speaker Bose-branded audio system coupled with a CD player, an 8-inch touchscreen display, satellite and HD radio, 2 USB charge-ports and 2 USB media inputs. With each trim, more features are added to the mix, the SL adding remote engine start and a 120-volt power outlet, the Platinum level adding a rear-seat entertainment system and unique 20-inch wheels, and Platinum Reserve topping things with 2-tone leather upholstery and special exterior trim.
Optional packages are available, the Driver package adding foglights, a power liftgate, and an auto-dimming mirror, among other features, and SL Premium package offering a sunroof and more safety features. A Captain's Seat package is also available, which replaces the bench seats on the 2nd row with a center console and 2 bucket seats.
The 2019 Armada is powered by a 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque and is able to tow up to 8,500 lbs when equipped. The engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, and 4-wheel drive is optional, with the rear-wheel-drive being standard. The vehicle is able to reach 60 mph at approximately 7 seconds, which is impressive considering the size of the SUV full of cargo and people - the vehicle weighing 6,000 lbs.
The Armada features a coil-spring setup, however, it does not harm ride quality in any way. When it comes to its brakes, the pedal feels smooth and offers a feeling of reassurance, and it also manages to deliver stopping power in a measured way. The powerful brakes manage to take the SUV to a full stop from 60 mph in 115 feet. Overall, the 2019 Armada offers a composed and reassuring ride, driving through turns more smoothly than expected, considering its weight.
The 2019 model features automatic emergency braking as a standard feature for every trim level. In addition, a rear-seat reminder and adaptive cruise control are also standard features. When moving up to higher trims, a camera-based rearview mirror is a standard feature for Platinum and Platinum Reserve levels, as well as active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and parking sensors. With the exception of the camera-based rearview mirrors, the safety features are also optional for the SL trim level. As far as passive safety features go, the list is comprised of 6 airbags, a rearview camera, and traction control.
