If you lived in or around Dallas back in the day, you might remember this little gem. Let's set the scene: It's sometime in the early-to-mid 1980s, suits from Sears were all the rage and mustaches were king. Ladies sported floral-print dresses and hoop earrings, and some of the worst music known to man was recorded and later sold in places called "record stores."
And if you worked at Trophy Nissan in the '80s, you obviously wanted to get in on some of that action. So what do you do if you're a car dealer? Make a bodacious video, of course. In a spot that reminds me of the Chicago Bears "Super Bowl Shuffle," the guys and gals at Trophy put together the video masterpiece you see here. Complete with synthesized music, a smoke machine and some stunning lighting, the sales team laid down some rhymes that are hilarious yet undeniably catchy; once you hear them, you won't be able to get them out of your head. If you're anything like me, you'll find yourself chanting, "Trophy, Trophy, Trophy Nissan" while showering or taking out the trash. It might even show up in your dreams - it's that powerful, really.
After reading several comments about the video on YouTube, it became clear to me that a lot of other people can't get this jam out of their heads, either. Here are some highlights:
"I remember back in elementary school, in the lunchroom everyone broke out and sung (sic) this song. If you grew up in Dallas in the 80s - you know this song."
"This is a classic! I still sing the beginning of this rap all the time and people think im (sic) crazy!"
"It still pops in my head today - which is why I just looked for it! friggin (sic) love it!!"
"Soundtrack to my youth, son!"
Even if the '80s produced some bad music, dubious fashion choices and questionable personal grooming habits, they were still a great time for a lot of people. After all, you don't really get to see car salesman dancing and rapping these days.
All in all, some pretty crazy stuff came out of the '80s, but some of it was pretty great, too.
