If you caught Nissan’s “With Dad” Super Bowl ad, which also featured the hot new GT-R based Le Mans racecar, you may have noticed that there was a deep plum-colored sports sedan quickly spotlighted at the very end of the commercial. That car was the redesigned 2016 Maxima, which is scheduled to debut at the New York International Auto Show this April. However, Nissan is obviously giving the nation a peek at what they can expect.

We’re happy to see that the new 2016 Maxima looks quite a bit like the fiery Nissan Sport Sedan Concept that was revealed at last year’s 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Sure, at the time Nissan’s guys said, “Don’t call it a Maxima,” but now a year later it’s pretty clear that the redesigned Maxima is closely based off the concept. Just take a side-by-side look at the cars below, which are provided in the following order: official 2016 Maxima pic, last year’s Sport Sedan Concept and the current outgoing Maxima.

A bold new grille, sleek new headlight treatments, and dynamic character line that rides over the front fenders and body sides are just a few of the similarities between Maxima and the concept. Overall, the new model looks stunning and we can’t wait to get it on the lot. When the new Maxima debuts at NYIAS this April, expect details regarding powertrain specs and features, as well as info about the sedan’s projected release date!
