The Nissan IDS Concept revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show received audible oohs and aahs for a good reason. If the LEAF of the future time traveled back to 2015 to shock us all, we think it would look and operate like the IDS. This puppy comes complete with a happy, smiling iPad screen that converts into a rather unique steering “wheel.” Plus, it includes a screen that faces out of the front windshield, which displays “Good Morning” greetings to vehicle owners and courteous “After You” messages to pedestrians who are walking or biking by the car.

The Nissan IDS Concept also includes an out-of-this-world Pilot Drive Mode (pictured above), which moves the steering wheel out of sight and replaces it with an information display and the happy iPad we mentioned earlier. In this mode the IDS offers autonomous driving, while passengers get to sit back and engage in conversation, which is made easier since the seats actually move inward when Pilot Drive Mode is engaged. The information displays offer social media updates and route and weather information along with other data, while state-of-the-art safety systems ensure passenger security using innovative camera, radar and laser technologies.
Of course, there’s also a Manual Drive Mode, and with the car’s several aerodynamic enhancements, IDS isn’t only fun to drive, but also incredibly efficient. View the video below to learn more about this standout electric car concept!
