Nissan Engine Not Working

From an empty gas tank to broken or worn-out components, there are many causes for a car to stop working. If your car is not turning on, it's time to figure out the underlying cause. In some cases, you can figure out the problem by yourself before contacting a technician. Consider these possible reasons if your car is not working properly.

Bad Starter

The starter is essential to firing up the engine. The starter works with the crankshaft to prompt the engine to start turning over and, in turn, power your car. The starter can encounter a few different problems that affect its performance. The motor in the starter can wear out and need replacement. The teeth in the starter can also break or become damaged and cause problems. If you start the car and hear nothing but a clicking noise, the starter is a likely culprit.

Dead Battery

Another possible cause for your car dying in the driveway is a dead battery. The battery can die quickly if you leave the headlights or interior lights on by accident. It can also wear out sooner if you drive in cold winter temperatures or hot summer temperatures year after year. Exposure to moisture can also cause corrosion in the battery's wires. The battery will last about five years or up to 60,000 miles with proper care. You can quickly check the battery's power levels or try jump-starting the car to see if it starts running again. If it does, you likely need a new battery.

Faulty Ignition

The ignition contains a few different parts. If one of the parts breaks, it can affect your car's ability to start. The ignition has a coil that uses battery power to generate a spark in the engine. If the ignition can't create that spark, the engine won't start. The ignition can also have problems with the spark plugs or cylinder head that cause it to break. If the ignition goes, you'll need to have your car serviced with a replacement.

No Gas

If your car's fuel supply is too low, the car won't be able to drive anywhere. You may see some warning signs that the tank is low, including a fuel warning light on the dashboard. If you recently added fuel to the car, but the tank is registering as empty, you may need to have the gas gauge fixed.

Clogged Engine Filter

Your car's engine has a fuel filter that keeps dirt and debris out of the engine and mechanical system. The fuel filter should be cleaned around 20,000 miles for engine performance and to prevent damage that can cause the car to stop.
